VTR offers new app with linear TV and VOD

Chilean largest cable operator VTR is offering its subscribers a new multiplatform app – called VTR Play – that integrates 65 TV channels and 4,000 VOD contents. The application was launch in May and since then has been downloaded by 50,000 users and about 25,000 have played at least one content, according to data provided by the company to NexTV News Latam.
The service is available for Android, Apple and Windows 10 devices, and on PCs through the website. To access, it is necessary to be a TV customer and to have an online password. The platform requires a minimum Internet connection of 2 Mbps for SD content and 4 Mbps for HD content.
VTR Play allows streaming the content on more than one device simultaneously, with a maximum of 3 devices per user account. As reported by the company in a statement, currently 60% of the content available on cable TV are active in VTR Play, along with 58% of channels.
“The pay TV industry has experienced important changes in recent times, due to changes in the content consumption of Chileans. In that line, one of the new trends have to do with taking television out of the TV set. This is why we launched VTR Play, an application that allows consumers to access linear and non-linear content from any device and anywhere,” said Edwin Elberg, Director of Product Development at VTR.
With this new product, VTR joins other operators that already offer their content outside the traditional TV, including Argentina’s Cablevisión through Flow, and Megacable de México with its Xview product, among others.
