The Uruguayan operators lost more than 7,000 subscribers to its pay TV services at the end of the first half of the year, according to a report by the country’s Communication Services Regulatory Unit (URSEC). Meanwhile, when it comes to mobile phone and internet services, the customer bases increased, with a marked leadership of the state telco Antel.
By the end of June 2021, the number of total pay TV subscribers decreased 1,5%, thus ending the period with 637,196 subscribers in all the country. Leading the competition was Directv, which at the end of the period reached a total of 202,321 users, while Cablevisión (Bersabel) followed it with 55,151 customers of their service.
On the other hand, during the first half of the year Antel occupied 53.11% of the mobile market, after having registered 357,174 new accesses by the end of June. According to the details, the Uruguayan state company is responsible for 46.06% of total mobile phone subscriptions; while in Internet services it reached 61.3% of the market.
