Tigo Sports, a pay TV channel focused on sporting events, announced it will officially broadcast 66 Costa Rican football matches through the internet. The operator is close to launch the Tigo Sports app in the country in July, when next football tournament is expected to begin. The app is already available in other countries as a regional level , such as Bolivia and Paraguay.
At present, Tigo has the rights to broadcast half of the 132 matches from the Costa Rican football championship’s regular phase. The channel will air local matches from teams Herediano, San Carlos, UCR, Santos, Guadalupe, and Jicaral (recently promoted to the First Division after winning against Guanacaste). From the 12 teams of the competition, Tigo owns the broadcasting rights of six.
‘Our aim in Tigo is that our customers can enjoy more and better content, wherever they want and on the device they prefer. For this reason, they will enjoy this new service that will already be included in most of our packages’, said Leandro Lagos, Residential Services Director at Tigo Costa Rica. According to the company, access to the mobile application will be for free for the pay TV channels subscribers, but, in a second stage, contents will be accessed by paying a subscription.
