Three incoming operators acquire 3.5 GHz regional lots in 5G auction in Brazil

The Brazilian operators Brisanet, Unifique and Copel Telecom managed to enter as new participants in the auction of frequency bands for 5G in Brazil of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and received regional batches of 3.5 GHz frequency.

During the event that took place last Thursday, November 4, it was specified that, by July 2022, the winning parties must have expanded their 5G mobile phone service to all the capitals of the Brazilian states. Also, the migration of the TVRO open TV system to the Ku band will fall under its responsibility, to release the 3.5 GHz frequency that now corresponds to 5G.

On the other hand, the three largest telcos in Brazil, Claro (América Móvil), Vivo (Telefónica) and TIM managed to keep the three most important national batches in the network, also with a 3.5 GHz frequency. Both the smallest and the largest, all the operators awarded the tenders must comply with a series of rules related to the modernization of the network and the massification of access to services.
