The switchover to digital television is about to be done in Benin. According to the authorities, 28 of the 29 sites planned for the switchover are operational. The shift to digital terrestrial television covers more than 80% of the territory thanks to the equipment provided by StarTimes, the technical partner of the Beninese authorities.
Officially, 14 of the 15 channels already chosen to be shown on the platform are tested on 150 StarTimes experimental decoders. As per the requirements, the platform can accommodate a maximum of 18 channels.
However, the missing parts at the current stage of the migration project is the creation of the Beninese broadcasting company, the distribution of decoders and the launch of the communication campaign regarding the switchover to digital.
