TelkomONE is the new streaming platform introduced by telecommunication operator, TelKom, which will focus on local content. TelkomOne streaming service will be available via the web, mobile apps, and streaming box and will come in daily, weekly and monthly subscription plans. It will also include a wide range of TV channels, all available to its customers.
“TelkomONE is a proudly local and South African service and naturally, we want to host and showcase outstanding content by content producers from our very own shores, including filmmakers, videographers, writers and directors on the platform,” said Telkom executive for smart home and content Wanda Mkhize.
A competition, under the hashtag #OpenUpTheIndustry, has also been created to encourage content producers to be noticed. They can enter this competition, not only to win cash prizes but also assist them with their content production. The competition is categorized into three genres where content producers can enter their submissions – comedy, lifestyle and ‘mobivelas’.
Mobivelas is a telenovela for mobile only – entrants will be judged on their ability to capture a real and original short-story. Comedy entrants, on the other hand, will be judged on the ability to make people laugh and will include a stand-up comedy. For the lifestyle genre, entrants can focus on content from a magazine show to edutainment.
This competition will run until 30 November and the winner in each category will receive R100,000 in funding their production show.
