Telemundo Deportes officially announced a multi-year agreement that includes the exclusive rights for the US of the matches that the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, better known as ‘Las Chivas’, plays as the local team in the coming MX Football League. This way, Chivas joins NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises sports content catalog from the beginning of the Professional Football League in Mexico.
The announced agreement includes the rights of all Chivas local matches, both in Spanish and English, on all Telemundo platforms. Apart from the professional league, Telemundo Deportes will also have the rights to broadcast other Chivas competitions, such as the club’s Women’s team and the Cantera Rojiblanca.
‘We are delighted to become the new home of Chivas de Guadalajara in the US’, said Ray Warren, President at Telemundo Deportes. ‘Being the team with the longest tradition and history, as well as the most popular and loved in Mexico, the acquisition of these rights is perfectly aligned with the vision of NBCUniversal and Telemundo Deportes to partner with the biggest and best properties in sports. We are eager to work with the entire ‘rojiblanca’ institution to continue nurturing its great career and marking a new successful era, reaching more fans in the US and other countries’, he added.
Amaury Vergara, President at the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, has also expressed himself ont the agreement with Telemundo Deportes: ‘We are very happy to have ran this partnership. Telemundo Deportes will help us bring a bit of Mexico and all the excitement generated by the Club Deportivo Guadalajara to our ‘Chivahermanos’ in the US. For us, it is very important to be a cornerstone in Telemundo’s return to Mexican football. This makes us strong on all sides’, said the executive.
Apart from the coverage of Chivas local matches, Telemundo Deportes and the Mexican football club will create additional multimedia content and programming opportunities, in order to extend the experience of the ‘Chivas de Guadalajara’ brand at Comcast and NBCUniversal , including Peacock, the company’s OTT, officially launched last week in the US, and all of Telemundo’s platforms.
