Huawei Technology Corporation will offer new models for the use of communication, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications to Telecom Egypt. The collaboration between the two companies is the result of an agreement signed on August 8, 2019 by Adel Hamed, chief executive officer of Telecom Egypt, and Vincent Sun, president and CEO of Huawei Egypt. It was on the sidelines of the BRICS Future Network Innovation, which was held from 5 to 9 August 2019 in China.
Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) also secured Huawei’s investment in youth training programs, in collaboration with training institutes and MCIT subsidiaries, including the Institute of Information Technology (ITI), the National Institute of Telecommunications (NTI) and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
During these exchanges, Huawei also showcased its 5G telecom and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in areas such as agriculture and healthcare. Egypt and Huawei have also agreed to increase their exchanges to deepen their cooperation in advanced communication technologies and their various applications.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Telecom Egypt and Huawei follows that signed by the public telecom company with telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE for the creation of a joint technology training center and an innovation lab that will help its developers to test telecommunications networks and train youth, engineers and technicians for mobile networks, Next Generation Passive Optical Network (NG-PON) and major data networks, with superior speed at 100 GB using fiber optic cables.
On August 7, 2019, Telecom Egypt also contacted China Telecom for cooperation in knowledge transfer, including customer service, Fiber to the Home (FTTH) installation of fiber-optic cable in homes.), and the provision of IPTV services.
Through the memorandum of understanding signed between Adel Hamed and Donald Tan Yi Jun, vice president of China Telecom, it was agreed that the two companies will work together to develop the operational model of Telecom Egypt.
In addition, China Telecom will provide consulting services for the development of FTTH plans and systems, as well as the sharing of best practices for the provision of IPTV services, in order to provide Telecom Egypt customers with an optimal service experience.
