Showmax, the subscription video-on-demand platform in sub-Saharan Africa, has rolled out a new service which will include sports content from its sister company, pay-television broadcaster SuperSport.
Showmax Pro will offer the existing Showmax entertainment service with music channels, news, and live sport streaming from SuperSport.
Showmax Pro will include all English Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish LaLiga and South African PSL football games, as well as an array of other live sports events including World Athletics competitions and boxing. SuperSport will also air Formula 1 motor racing until 2022 after concluding a three-year renewal with the sport’s commercial arm, Formula One Management.
Showmax Pro has already been launched in Kenya and Nigeria. More countries will go live soon and the service will cover sub-Saharan Africa.
In Kenya and Nigeria, Showmax Pro has been valued at KES2,100 ($20) and NGN6,300 ($16) per month, respectively. Showmax Pro Mobile, a subscription offering for smartphone and tablet devices only, is priced at KES1,050 ($9.79) and NGN3,200 ($8.26) per month, respectively.
Showmax was introduced in August 2015 and is accessible across sub-Saharan Africa. Showmax started testing sport live-streaming last year.
