SuperSport to broadcast LaLiga in Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Saharan African pay-television broadcaster, SuperSport has renewed its exclusive rights to the top two tiers of Spanish football, LaLiga.

The South Africa-based pay-TV network’s deal includes all languages except Arabic and French. The agreement will see La Liga’s dedicated 24/7 English-language channel, LaLigaTV, made available to subscribers on pay-TV’s DStv, which covers the sub-Saharan region.

The agreement includes all 380 matches from the top-tier Primera División as well as the promotion play-offs from the second-tier Segunda División.

The Chief Executive of SuperSport, Gideon Khobane, stated, “We’re delighted to have finalised a new deal as football is one of our popular broadcast pillars. Liga is a fantastic product and our viewers enjoy the excitement on show from week to week.”

On the other hand, Melcior Soler, Director of the La Liga audiovisual department, said, “SuperSport has been a strong partner for La Liga in Africa for many years and our fanbase across the continent has grown significantly during this time. We look forward to further years of success together.”

LaLiga began the sub-Saharan Africa tender process in June 2019. Its previous deals in the region expired after the 2019-20 season and were all agreed for five seasons.
