Starz (Lionsgate) has officially announced this last Friday, February 12th, that its SVOD OTT premium Starzplay is now available for Dish’s customers in Mexico. Up to now, the company has not reported details about the Dish packages in which the platform will be included, nor did it inform the value of the monthly subscription to access its catalog.
Some of the titles available on Starzplay that Dish Mexico customers will be able to access include ‘The Spanish Princess’ (original Starz series); ‘Power Book II: Ghost’; and the series ‘The Stand’, based on Sthephen King’s novel. Starzplay also includes series nominated for the 2020 Emmy Awards as part of its content offering, such as ‘Normal People’; ‘The Great’ and ‘The Act’, together with several other movie titles.
‘Our partnership with Dish México is extremely important for our growth in that country, which allows us to strengthen our position in the market and provide consumers with even more access to our great original series and curated content offer’, reported Superna Kalle, EVP International Digital Networks at Starz. ‘We look forward to deepening our relationship with Mexican audiences through Dish, which shares our commitment to provide them with exceptional content, combined with a premium user experience’, added the executive.
From Dish Mexico they have also also expressed themselves on the partnership with Starzplay, through Roger Quentin, Director of Pay TV and Mobile Services of the company. ‘At Dish México, we are always looking for ways to generate new strategic partnerships that benefit our subscribers and, at the same time, allow us to reach new markets with new products, increasingly enriching our digital offer with the highest quality content. This is the case of our alliance with Starzplay, a significant partner in the digital services and streaming platforms field’, said the executive.
In September 2020, Dish Mexico announced a new partnership with Amazon to offer new packages with the Amazon Prime Video membership included. In addition, during the last Nextv Series Mexico virtual edition, Eduardo Peniche, Sales Director at Dish Mexico, reported that 30% of the company’s total sales belong to the addressable model.
On the other hand, Starzplay has recently announced its launch in Argentina, Chile and Colombia as a D2C OTT. In Mexico, one of its most recent partnerships was announced with Cinepolis Klic, in November 2020, through which it added several of its titles to the OTT catalog. In addition, Starzplay has also been integrated into Izzi and Totalplay catalogs in the country.
