StarTV to bring the Tokyo Olympic Games for free to its subscribers in partnership with Claro Sports

Mexican DTH StarTV has announced that it will bring all its subscribers full coverage of the Tokyo Olympic Games for free, through four channels, launched  in partnership with Claro Sports, America Movil’s pay TV channel focused on broadcasting sporting events.

‘We thank Claro Sports for the acquisition and broadcast of the Tokyo Olympic Games. We are very proud to join, through StarTV, with four temporary channels, 100% focused on this event ‘, stated Bruno Pruneda, General Manager at StarTV. ‘Claro Sports 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be channels that will surely break audience levels throughout July and August, and will be available for free to all our active subscribers’, added the executive.

According to the information reported by StarTV, the four Claro Sports channels focused on the Tokyo Olympic Games will be available on channels 515, 516, 517 and 518 of the DTH’s programming grid.

The competition will take place between July 23rd and August 8th. The initiative joins the announcement recently made by Claro (America Movil), who confirmed the live broadcast of the Olympic Games through YouTube (called ‘Marca Claro) and Claro Sports (pay TV), in several Latin American countries. It will be Claro’s second commitment to the Olympic Games, after having broadcast those held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. At first, the event was planned to take place between July 24th and August 9th, 2020, but, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were put off, keeping the ‘Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games’ name.
