Chilean Professional Football National Association (ANFP) and Mexican Professional Football League’s (Liga MX) President, Enrique Bonilla Barrutia, officially confirmed the return of professional football activities in both countries. The first country to resume professional football will be Mexico on July 24th, while Chile will do so a week later, on July 31st, although official government authorization still remains. With the announcements, the both country’s channels will be able to resume their sports programming.

In Mexico, professional football TV rights are negotiated by each club on their own. The country’s football league had been cancelled due to the advance of the Coronavirus in March and, for the new championship, Televisa, TV Azteca, Imagen TV (only the Queretaro club) and Multimedios (only Guadalajara) has a license to broadcast the League’s football matches on FTA TV; Sky Sports (Televisa and AT&T), TUDN (Televisa and Univision), Afizzinados (Televisa), Claro Sports (America Movil), ESPN (Disney) -only Atletico San Luis-, and Fox Sports on Pay TV -Disney does not have the approval for its merger with Fox in Mexico-; while the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, better known as ‘Las Chivas’, broadcasts its matches on Chivas TV, its own OTT.

In Chile, professional football TV rights belong to the Canal de Futbol (CDF), owned by Turner Group. All the Chilean League matches can be watched through the premium channels of the CDF Premium pack, or via OTT through the Estadio CDF  platform.

In Latin America, professional football activities had been resumed in Costa Rica on March 19th, while in Nicaragua it was not cancelled despite the Coronavirus advance in the region.
