MultiChoice’s streaming platform Showmax will be streaming live all Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football matches of the South African national team.
Also known as Bafana Bafana, South Africa will begin their AFCON competition in Group D with Morocco, Ivory Coast and Namibia. Their first match, against Ivory Coast, will be on 26 June at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
The new sport section of Showmax, which features an array of extended highlights from major sports events, popular magazine shows, and live-streaming, is accessible on all Showmax apps and platforms except for Apple TV, Xbox and PlayStation, and some smart TVs.
The subscription price of Showmax remains unchanged at 6.88 USD (ZAR99) per month, or 3.41 USD (ZAR49) per month for DStv Compact and Compact Plus subscribers. On the other hand, it is free of charge for subscribers of the DStv Premium pack.
The CEO of the Connected Video division of MultiChoice, stated, “We’re going to trial a bunch of different sport content while keeping Showmax at the R99 price point, and see how our customers interact with the service. We’ll be ramping up our live game offerings with everything from selected matches from the best football leagues in Europe to streaming a wide variety of varsity and school sports.”
The live sports programs on Showmax is at the moment only available in South Africa.
