Showmax has announced a 5-year sponsorship contract with the South African Football Association (SAFA) with the purpose of generating a more professional image around officiating in the country. This patronage aims at revamping refereeing in South Africa.
SAFA stated, “The partnership supports more than 40,000 referees officiating in all matches played under the auspices of SAFA and provides assistance to both the male and female divisions of the sport, in support of SAFA’s Project Equity”.
The SAFA referees under the programme will henceforth be known as “the Showmax SAFA Referees.” This partnership is primarily to ameliorate football officiating and enhance the development, education and training of match officials. Its goal is also to ensure that both match officials and referees are prone to the best techniques and innovations to enforce the rules of the game.
Showmax will offer rebranded and newly designed referee kits showcasing the Showmax brand through all SAFA levels.
“The partnership between MultiChoice and SAFA is critical as it allows us to fulfil our development mandate, as well as improving the quality of football officiating at both domestic and international level. This partnership will continue to contribute to deliver world-class officials on an inclusive basis. It will further accelerate delivery of both male and female match officials for CAF and FIFA competitions,” administered by SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.
