SBT to officially broadcast the Copa Libertadores on FTA TV in Brazil

As reported by specialized websites in Brazil days ago, this Thursday, September 10th, the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has officially confirmed it finally came to terms with the Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão (SBT) in order for it to own the TV broadcasting rights for the Copa Libertadores for the 2020-2022 period in the country on FTA TV, after Globo has announced its decision to cancel the agreement for the rights.

‘We are pleased to announce SBT as the new holder of Conmebol Libertadores TV broadcasting rights for Brazil. This partnership will allow us to bring the excitement of the competition to more fans in Brazil’, reported Juan Emilio Roa, Marketing Director at Conmebol.

The agreement with SBT guarantees the TV broadcast of the Copa Libertadores on FTA TV in Brazil. The Copa Libertadores will resume its matches starting this coming Tuesday, September 15th, with the third fixture date of the Group Phase. On September 16th, SBT will broadcast the matches that Universidad Católica (Chile) will play against Gremio (Brazil); and Bolivar (Bolivia) against Palmeiras (Brazil).

‘It is great to be able to announce this partnership. We know that football is the most popular sport in Brazil and, as we are also a popular TV channel, nothing better than to be able to resume national broadcasts with a tournament like Conmebol Libertadores. We hope to be up to the expectations of football fans, the advertising market and all those who support SBT’, said Jose Roberto dos Santos Maciel, CEO at SBT.
