SABC acquired Free-to-Air FA Cup rights in South Africa

South African public-service broadcaster SABC seized free-to-air rights to the FA Cup for the quarter-finals of this season’s competition.

SABC Sport will air all remaining matches from this year’s edition of English football’s knockout clubs’ competition. The agreement also includes next season where the broadcaster will display 17 live matches from the FA Cup, starting from the fifth round, and the season-opening Community Shield.

SABC Sport has already broadcasted the quarter-final matches. Both semi-finals and the final will be covered live on SABC 3.

The general manager of SABC Sport, Gary Rathbone, declared “This is a breakthrough deal for SABC Sport. This acquisition is at the back of some of SABC’s key strategic turnaround objectives of making sound business decisions and financially viable partnerships. Secondly, the world over has keen interest in English football content which drives a sizeable audience share and is a very attractive proposition to our commercial partners.”
