Public broadcaster in Tunisia to launch new TV channel

The public broadcaster of Tunisia plans to launch a new television channel to boost its channels offer. The information was communicated by Fathi Chroundi, director of the public television channel Watania 1, during a broadcast on Jawhara FM radio. According to his words, the channel should “respond to the will and need of the Tunisian citizen for rapid and accurate information”. Thus, the new channel should essentially provide national and international news.

For the moment, the idea of a television channel covering parliamentary activity has also been raised during a discussion between Mohamed Lassâad Dahech, who heads the public broadcaster and Rached Ghannouchi, president of the Assembly of People’s Representatives. One of the solutions mentioned could see Watania 2 transformed into a parliamentary channel. The Tunisian broadcaster should soon launch the preparatory work for the commissioning of a new channel.
