PrendeTV strengthens its sports offering with the Brasileirão and the Argentina Professional Football League

US Spanish-language media conglomerate Univision has officially announced this last Friday, July 16th, that it managed to get the rights to broadcast Argentine and Brazilian Professional Football Leagues on PrendeTV, the company’s new AVOD OTT, focused on the US Spanish-Speaking audience, launched in the country at the end of March.

According to the terms of the agreement, Univision will broadcast on PrendeTV  matches of series A and B of Brasileirao (Brazilian Professional Football League), as well as those of the Argentine’s Professional Football League. Likewise, although Univision reports that the partnership will be in force ‘for several years’, it has not specified how long it will be valid.

‘We are thrilled to be able to add these two elite leagues to our extensive portfolio, consisting of the best football from around the world’, reported Juan Carlos Rodriguez, President of Sports, Univision. ‘Brasileirão and the Argentine Professional Football League feature an exciting brand of football each with a rich, celebrated history that resonates strongly with our fans. This deal takes place in a key moment for Univision and the TUDN sports brand, as we continue to expand our football offerings to make more matches available over the PrendeTV service’, the executive added.

Some of both league’s first matches that were broadcast on PrendeTV this last weekend were those of Union de Santa Fe against Boca Juniors; Colon de Santa Fe against River Plate; as well as those that faced Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro; and Bahia against Flamengo.

In addition, one of the projects in which Univision is currently working on focuses on the launch of a new streaming platform in the US and Latin America, whose name has not been confirmed yet, although it is known that it will be launched in 2022. The platform will include both free ad-supported (AVOD) and premium subscription (SVOD) based options. According to the information reported at the end of June by the company, the new OTT will unify the best content from Univisión OTTs, such as PrendeTV, Vix and Univision Now, and the AVOD level will be based on PrendeTV. In total, the free tier will feature over 100 linear channels and over 40 thousand hours of wholly-owned and acquired content.
