In Ivory Coast, the government has ordered that TV channels available on DTT be offered free of charge on pay-TV packages in the country. NCI, A + Ivoire, Life TV, RTI1, RTI2, RTI 3 and 7info must therefore be accessible, even without a subscription from all operators.
The information was made public on August 19 by the Minister of Communication and Media, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, at the end of the ministers’ cabinet meeting.
“Pay-TV operators are required to distribute the DTT channels free of charge. This measure aims to guarantee the consumer free access to the terrestrial channels of the Ivorian DTT”, explained the Minister.
Given the scheduled shutdown of the analogue signal which will definitively push forward DTT in the national audio-visual space, this measure aims to guarantee consumers free access to the terrestrial channels of Ivorian DTT. Thus, operators of satellite packages are required to broadcast the DTT channels included in their packages free of charge.
Furthermore, the free DTT channels can be received on national territory for the benefit of the subscribers of the pay channels even in the event of non-payment of the subscription fees.
