New soccer broadcasting law is approved in Brazil

The Brazilian government approved the Mandatory Law (14.205 / 2021) that imposes new rules on the broadcasting rights of soccer matches in the country. Regulations that have already entered into force include the granting of broadcasting rights to the host club of the sporting event.

From now on, the team to which the game venue corresponds has the exclusive prerogative to negotiate, authorize or prohibit the transmission or reproduction of all the images of the match. In addition, the amounts for the broadcasting rights will be distributed among the players, in equal parts of 5% of their operating income.

On the other hand, radio, open TV and pay TV operators were also empowered to advertise their products and programs through team uniforms and other communication media available at the facilities; action that was previously prohibited.
