Netflix plans series on ‘One hundred years of solitude’

‘One hundred years of solitude’, Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez literary work, will be available on Netflix. The OTT acquired its rights to develop the novel in an original series, which will feature Rodrigo Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia Barcha, the writer’s sons, as executive producers of the project.

Both came to terms with Netflix to film the series in Spanish and mainly in Colombia, two of the conditions the producers demanded the OTT to carry out the initiative. Only Latin American talents will be hired to film the series, according to what Francisco Ramos, Netflix Spanish productions vice president.

‘For decades, our father was reluctant to give ‘One hundred years of solitude’ rights, because he considered it impossible to do it under the time limitations of a film, and he thought that producing it in a language different from Spanish would not be unfair ‘, said Garcia, and added that ‘in the current series golden age, with the of talented writers and directors level,  cinematographic quality and great worldwide reception of content in foreign languages, the time could not be better to bring an adaptation to Netflix’s global audiences’.
