Netflix and Nickelodeon announced a new multi-year agreement to produce animated films and original television series, based on both Nickelodeon’s content catalog and new stories for children and families around the world.
‘Nickelodeon has created several characters that children love and that is why we are excited to create completely original stories that re-imagine and expand that worlds that these characters inhabit’, said Melissa Cobb,VP, Kids & Family, Netflix. ‘We are delighted to continue collaborating in different ways with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito and the Nickelodeon creative team, as we try to find new voices and bring bold stories to the Netflix global audience’, she said.
Brian Robbins, President of Nickelodeon, said that ‘the next step for the channel is to continue its expansion plan beyond linear platforms and our agreement to create content with Netflix is a key issue for that’.
Netflix has an internal animation studio with which it intends to enrich its catalog. “Nickelodeon Animation Studio is the home of world-class artists and storytellers behind some of the most iconic characters and shows ever made, and our animation chief, Ramsey Naito, has been working with that legacy to increase development and production.” explained Robbins.
