Multi-Screen Media (MSM) and BBC Worldwide have announced the launch of a new television channel, BBC Earth, in India. The channel is a subscription television channel which features factual programming.
BBC Earth was officially launched in Poland on 1 February, 2015, replacing BBC Knowledge. It was launched in Hungary on 14 April, 2015 in high definition format with added Hungarian voice in place of BBC Knowledge. BBC had announced to roll out the channel in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland this month.
“BBC Worldwide will draw on its extensive catalogue of programming from the BBC’s foremost factual film makers and reputation for excellence in the factual genre, while MSM which runs the Sony network of television channels in the country has extensive experience in operating and distributing television channels in India,” said a statement.
BBC Earth is set to replace BBC Knowledge excluding markets where BBC Knowledge is successful. BBC plans to air series such as Frozen Planet and Wonders of the Universe along with new content.
