Telefonica Mexico plans to deliver its streaming TV service through its Movistar Play application this year, as confirmed by Telefonica Mexico president, Carlos Morales Paulín.
‘We already have a service called Movistar Play in Telefonica, an OTT with so many contents that is already available in other countries services. We want to offer it soon in Mexico, probably this year, pointed the CEO of the company.
On June 6th, 2018, Unique Concession was approved by Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT), which allows Telefonica to provide any telecommunications service, and the Spanish group promises to take advantage on this opportunity to deliver Pay TV through streaming starting this year.
Morales Paulín expressed its concern about Mexican spectrum costs, which affects Telefonica’s expenses. ‘Several issues affect our expenses, but one in particular is the spectrum cost in Mexico, one of the most expensive in the world, so that we and our competitors will pay 15% in spectrum costs in 2019, and can not allow industrial profitability to deteriorate if we want to invest in Mexico’, he added.
