As part of the operating and financial results recently announced by Movistar Colombia, the company reported that it has ended 2020 with 1.2 million broadband internet customers, of which 329 thousand have FTTH services with symmetric speeds of up to 500 MB in Bogota and 300 MB in the rest of the country. In addition, the company reported that its IPTV client base made a 134.9% growth, up to 187 thousand clients.
Movistar ended the year with a total of 19.4 million clients in Colombia, of which 16.3 million belong to the mobile client base, and 3.1 million to the company’s fixed services. According to the information reported by Movistar Colombia, its postpaid mobile business reported growth for the eleventh consecutive quarter, and experienced a 7% year-on-year advance in 2020, a figure equivalent to around 285 thousand customers. Prepaid customers, however, made a 0.6% drop.
‘The results achieved in 2020 show the measures adopted by the company to mitigate Covid-19 impacts, but also the commitment of a team that worked to keep millions of Colombians connected throughout the country and even bring the benefits of said connectivity to more people’, reported Fabian Hernandez, President & CEO at Movistar Colombia.
Regarding Movistar Colombia’s FTTH offers, the company announced in early March the launch of a new plan with symmetric speeds of up to 50 MB in Bogota. The service allows Movistar Colombia’s FTTH clients to access Netflix in plans from 150 megabytes and Amazon Prime Video for free during the first three months. In addition, those who access will be able to enjoy HBO’s premium channels for free for two months, and with a 50% discount for the two following months. Movistar Colombia also has launched an exclusive offer for companies in Bogota, Chia and Soacha with symmetric speeds of 500 megabytes of internet via FTTH, in which customers can choose between digital options at no additional cost, including access to Movistar TV , with HD channels.
