Uruguayan pay TV operator Montecable continues betting on eSports and announced it will initially broadcast until July ‘La Liga Pro’, the Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) competition, developed by Temporada de Juegos and AMC Networks International Latin America. Until now, the tournament was only available on the official Temporada de Juegos YouTube, Facebook and Twitch accounts and its website.
Since May 29th, Montecable added the weekly live broadcast of CS:GO’s Liga Pro Norte, Centro and Sur in the Eventos MC HD channel, available both on STBs and through its OTT, MCGoLive, launched on Android TV at the end of 2019.
The Liga Pro continues with its two annual editions: the ‘Apertura’, which is being held between April and July, and the ‘Clausura’, which will take place between August and December. Also, for the first time in the history of CS: GO, it will go through all of Latin America through the Supercopa de America, which will boost the development of the competition worldwide. The 26 teams in the e-sports competition are made up of 130 players from different countries in the region. The competition will be divided between the Liga Pro Sur, with 10 teams involving gamers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay; the Liga Pro Centro, which brings eight teams together with gamers from Bolivia, Central America, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela; and the Liga Pro Norte, with gamers from Mexico.
Also, in late April, Montecable aired the ‘FIFA eNations StayAndPlay Cup’ eSports event, which consisted of a live online football world cup, organized by FIFA, in which 43 football teams participated. As officially reported from Montecable, after the broadcast of the already mentioned tournament, ‘we found that we have a restless and young audience that demands this type of programming’. In addition, they stated that ‘the key for us, as a company that offers entertainment, is to captivate this audience, offering interesting content for them’. In relation to the CS: GO competition, from Montecable they reported that ‘it means for us a new instance to captivate a greater audience in front of the screens and offer content adapted for a new target of viewers’.
