Mexico reaches 22.6 million pay TV accesses

The Mexican Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) presented the Q118 results of the telecommunications market. Pay TV recorded 22.6 million accesses, an increase of 1.5% when compared to the total figure reported by operators in the same period of the previous year.
According to the data provided by the regulator, the service penetration maintains at 67% over households, the same figure as in March 2017.
In another statement, IFT had already reported that Pay TV prices increased by 3.1% until the first half of June, a variation that is below the CPI inflation (Consumer Price Index).
The IFT also reported that the total number of fixed broadband accesses was 17.6 million, up 9% compared to the first quarter of 2017. Penetration went from 49 to 52 accesses per 100 homes.
At the end of Q118, fixed broadband accesses through optical fiber and coaxial cable had an annual increase of almost 23% and more than 19%, respectively; while access through copper decreased more than 2%.
In March, mobile telephony registered 115 million lines (+ 2.8%). On the other hand, the number of mobile broadband lines exceeded 82 million (+ 7.1%). On the other hand, the number of fixed telephone lines was more than 20 million, down 2.4% compared to the same period from previous year.
