Mexico: Pay TV subscribers down 0.8% in Q317

According to Q317 data released by Mexican regulator IFT, total pay TV accesses in the country reached 22.2 million, down 0.8% compared to the figure reported by operators in the same period of previous year.
The service penetration “went from 67 to 66 accesses per 100 households,” the regulator said. At the end of the period, Televisa Group led the market with a 61.9% of share, Dish had 17.36%, Megacable 12.9% and Totalplay 2.3%.
In the pay TV market, prices increased by 11.9% from the telecommunications reform in 2013 until February 2018, according to the regulator.
Total number of fixed broadband accesses reached 16.7 million in September 2017, representing a growth of 7% compared to Q316 and 37% from the telecommunications reform in 2013. In turn, prices increased by 1.1% from 2013 to February 2018.
In the third quarter of 2017, almost 112 million mobile lines were reported, representing an increase of 2.2% compared to the third quarter of 2016. The MVNOs recorded close to 1.4 million mobile telephony lines, up 18% from previous year; and they represented 1.2% of the total market. According to the regulator’s data, the prices of mobile telephony decreased by 42.43% from 2013 until February 2018. In turn, the number of fixed telephony lines was 19.3 million in Q317, almost 3% less than in June of the same year.
