Megacable’s Xview service ended 2017 with 170,000 subscribers

Mexican pay TV operator Megacable published its Q417 results last week. The video segment reached 3.04 million subscribers, a 2.4% growth compared to Q317, with net adds of 71,000 subscribers, the highest quartelry figure registered since Q116. In turn, the multiplatform service Xview added 43,000 new subscribers and reached a total base of 170,000.
In its quarterly report, Megacable said that during Q417 “the company completed the updating process for its STB Legacy software, with which it expects massive subscriber migration to the Xview platform within the coming months”. Xview was launched in June 2017. In an interview with NexTV News Latam last September, Megacable CEO Enrique Yamuni said that the expectation is to reach 500,000 Xview subscribers in 12 months of service.
In the presentation of results, Megacable highlighted the addition of subscribers to its traditional pay TV base, which had lost customers in the first quarter of 2017, after the departure of Televisa’s channels. “The company was able to generate growth, thereby allowing it to conclude the year with a 4.5% increase in the last nine months of 2017. This result was due to valuable commercial strategies implemented in order to achieve healthier subscriber adds, as well as the continued improvement in the churn rate”.
Megacable also reported 2.6 million Internet subscribers (+18%YoY) and 1.5 million telephony subscribers (+24.7%). The video segment recorded revenues of MX$ 1.9 billion (USD 104 million), Internet reached MX$ 1.4 billion (USD 73 million) and telephony reached revenues of MX$ 405.4 million (USD 21.5 million).
