Megacable starts 2021 with 1.4 million Xview subscribers and more internet than video clients

As part of its Q1 2021 results report presentation, Mexican holding Megacable reported a total of 1.4 million subscribers to Xview, its SVOD OTT. According to the figures managed by the company, the platform featured a  530 thousand net additions growth (60.6%) regarding  Q1 2020, while, in comparison with the last three months last year, the OTT achieved 247 thousand new subscribers. In addition, Megacable reported that 84% of its customer base is digital, and has distributed a total of 5 million STBs.

Megacable also reported that it ended Q1 2021 with 3.4 million subscribers as part of its video segment, a figure that shows a 203 thousand net additions growth (6.3%) compared to Q1 2020, and 24 thousand new subscribers during the first three months of 2021. Similarly, and as it has been taking place in recent quarters, Megacable reported more internet than video subscribers once again, since the company’s internet segment ended the first quarter 2021 with almost 3.6 million customers and reported a growth of 444 thousand net additions (14.1%) in relation to Q1 2020, and 80 thousand more new subscribers (2.3%) during Q4 2020. “The company is committed to offering a reliable service in the situation that is taking place. The new consumer trends are reflected in the more than 25% increase in the average speed of subscribers compared to the pre-pandemic period’, they reported from Megacable.

During the last days of February, Megacable announced the official launch of Xview+ on Android TV, whose interface allows access to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO GO and YouTube. In addition, the company launched new remote controls with buttons for direct access to Netflix and Prime Video.

The highest churn reported by Megacable during the first three months of 2021, as occurred in Q4 2020 and Q1 2020, took place in the telephony segment (2.2%); followed by video (1.9%) and internet (1.7%). Likewise, the company’s ARPU in pay TV was valued at MX$ 411.4 (USD 20.3), 2% more than that achieved in Q4 2020 (MX $ 405.2; USD 20); and a decrease of 1% compared to Q1 2020 (MX $ 416.3; USD 20.5).
