Chilean newspaper La Tercera reported that Fox Sports Chile could be put on sale because ‘the order to get rid of assets in Brazil was coordinated by the Economic Defense Administrative Council (CADE) together with the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE of Chile)’ , which developed a legal process to analyze the scope of Disney-Fox merger in November 19th, 2018.
According to the Chilean newspaper, Brazil would not be the only country in which Fox Sports will be sold in a forced way. The file expressly states that the operation was notified in 25 jurisdictions and that even the Brazilian CADE ‘coordinated a common solution with two other countries: Chile and Mexico’. However, FNE did not report to La Tercera a possible decision on the merger.
In Brazil, CADE partially approved the merger between Fox and Disney, and established as a condition the sale of Fox Sports Brazil by Disney to a third to avoid sports content concentration in the market.
