IFT renews TV Azteca and Televisa concessions

Mexican telecom regulator IFT has renewed the concessions of TV Azteca and Televisa for another 20 years. Both stations reach 93.2% of Mexican households, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
This includes Televisa’s free-to-air channels Las Estrellas, Canal 5, Canal 9, Foro TV and several local stations. In the case of TV Azteca, it includes concessions for Azteca Uno, Azteca Siete and ADN 40.
The decision was adopted at the IFT Plenary on Wednesday of last week, where the regulator analyzed and approved the renewal of more than 500 radio and television concessions.
With the renewals that the regulator made in July last year (about 730 concessions) and the actions of last week, about 70% of the total of radio and television stations in Mexico have been extended, according to El Financiero.
