WarnerMedia confirmed that Latin America will be the region where HBO Max, its SVOD OTT officially launched in the US in late May, will begin its international expansion. The company also announced the appointment of former Hulu Johannes Larcher to lead the process.
As reported by several specialized websites, Larcher will join the company in August and report to Gerhard Zeiler, Chief Revenue Officer for WarnerMedia, and President of WarnerMedia International Networks. His first focus will be the launch of HBO Max in Latin America, to later expand it to other territories. Larcher will work closely with Whit Richardson, President of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks for Latin America, in order to achieve his goal.
WarnerMedia has not set an official date for the HBO Max launch in Latin America yet, but the platform is expected to arrive at the region in 2021. In addition, John Stephens, AT&T’s CFO, confirmed the company’s intentions to release an AVOD version of HBO Max when launching it in Latin America and Europe.
Apart from that, WarnerMedia has recently announced the total acquisition of HBO Ole Partners, joint venture between the company and Ole Communications, through which it takes full control of HBO’s channels and platforms in Latin America.
