Globoplay, the Brazilian operator’s streaming service, increased 42% in number of subscribers until June 2021, according to a report for the first half of the year. It was also revealed that the increase was not only in revenue, but also in the audience numbers registered by its content, partly driven by the launch of Big Brother Brasil.
Despite the losses that Globo registered in the last time against the competition of the OTTs that arrived in the region, in Q2 2021 the company had a total revenue of around USD 49 million, which represents a growth of 68%, compared to the previous period.
On the other hand, the company also assured that the incorporation of platforms such as Apple TV + and Amazon Prime Video to its service boosted the financial increase in recent months. In this way, they affirmed that customers prefer to purchase a single subscription that allows them to access different content, instead of acquiring them separately.
