Grupo Globo inaugurated a new era of transformation after the assumption of Paulo Marinho, until now Executive Director of Globo Channels, as president of the company, replacing Jorge Nóbrega, who is leaving to give space for new generations. For this new period, the company decided to focus mainly on streaming, with the aim of strengthening the relationship of open TV with the Globoplay platform.
After the launch of Big Brother Brasil 21, one of Globo’s most popular reality shows, the service grew 89% in subscribers, while the open TV signal also reached high audience numbers. In this way, the new management considers that the next step should be to integrate streaming with TV, since it was shown that the format helped attract young audiences.
However, the Brazilian media Minha Operadora affirmed that the transformation of the brand caused a significant concern in Globo’s offices, since the changes that remain to be made could imply layoffs and closures or migrations of other signals and applications, as happened with Telecine, which recently closed its platform and was integrated into Globoplay.
