The Brazilian company Globo announced that on December 31, 2021 it will close all its international channels in Europe, with the aim of focusing 100% on its streaming service, Globoplay. As detailed by the company, during the beginning of the new year it will suspend the signals of 43 countries on the continent, with the exception of Portugal, where it will continue to air.
However, the European public will still be able to enjoy all the programming through the brand’s OTT, which was launched in the region last October, and that the company seeks to strengthen to offer it as its main product. At a value of approximately USD 11, subscribers can access a bundle of live channels, such as GloboNews, SportTV and Multishow; as well as a VoD catalog with more than 1000 titles.
“The closure of Globo’s international channel through pay TV operators in Europe is part of the changes to transform the company’s operating model, which will now focus on the direct-to-consumer model in these territories“, Globo explained after the news was revealed by the Brazilian media UOL.
