According to the information reported by specialized websites in Brazil, the SVOD OTT Funimation, focused on anime content, announced its launch on Samsung smart TVs in that country. On a first step, the app is available on TVs with the Tizen operating system, launched between 2017 and 2021. The app allows access to a catalog of dubbed and subtitled anime titles in Portuguese, and can be downloaded from the Samsung application store.
Funimation was officially launched in Brazil in November 2020, with a catalog of more than 1,500 hours of anime content, including titles such as ‘My Hero Academia’, ‘Attack on Titan’, ‘Assassination Classroom’, and others. In addition, some of the features available through the app include a viewing video history; recommended content, a list of personalized titles, and others.
The Funimation offer is available in Brazil for a R$ 24.90 (USD 5) monthly subscription, or an annual option, valued at R $ 249 (USD 49). Samsung smart TVs users who choose to access the platform through the annual plan (Premium Plus) will be able to access ad-free content. If they choose other plans, the contents will be available with advertisements. Subscription payment can be made via PayPal or Visa and MasterCard credit cards.
In addition to access through Samsung smart TVs, Funimation launched last year in Brazil an application for devices with Android operating system, in addition to its web version. At the time of its launch in Brazil and Mexico, Funimation had reported intentions to expand the ways to access the platform through apps for mobile devices and smart TVs. It is also possible to stream Funimation content to the TV screen via Chromecast. The OTT is also available on Roku devices in Brazil.
