Fox Sports and ESPN to broadcast the Copa Libertadores 2020

Almost a year after the announcement of the merger between The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox, media from several Latin American countries reported that Fox Sports will not be the exclusive broadcasting TV network of the Copa Libertadores, and some matches will be aired on ESPN, which , since 2019, is also broadcasting matches of the Copa Sudamericana. In addition, in Argentina, changes in the journalistic staff of the broadcasts were announced.

Although to date the complete schedule of the competition is unknown, the first fixture date of the football competition is taking place between Tuesday, March 3rd and Wednesday, March 5th. On Tuesday, ESPN will broadcast the matches to be played between Defensa y Justicia (Argentina) and Santos (Brazil); Athlético Paranaense (Brazil) and Peñarol (Uruguay); and America de Cali (Colombia) against Gremio (Brazil). Fox Sports will broadcast the matches between Internacional (Brazil) and Universidad Catolica (Chile); Independiente Medellin (Colombia) and Libertad (Paraguay); and Caracas (Venezuela) against Boca Juniors (Argentina).

The first fixture date of the Copa Libertadores will continue on Wednesday, March 4th. That day, ESPN will broadcast the matches that will face Barcelona Guayaquil (Ecuador) and Independiente del Valle (Ecuador); LDU Quito (Ecuador) and River Plate (Argentina); and Delfin (Ecuador) against Olimpia (Paraguay). Fox Sports will air matches between Tigre (Argentina) and Palmeiras (Brazil); Jorge Wilstermann (Bolivia) and Colo Colo (Chile); Junior (Colombia) and Flamengo (Brazil); and Guarani (Paraguay) facing Bolivar (Bolivia).

Finally, on Thursday, March 5th, the sports date will be completed with the matches between Estudiantes de Merida (Venezuela) and Racing Club (Argentina), the only match of that day to be broadcast on Fox Sports, while ESPN will air the matches between Binacional (Peru) and Sao Paulo (Brazil); and Alianza Lima (Peru)  against Nacional (Uruguay).

In addition, some of the Copa Libertadores matches will also be broadcast on Facebook Watch, the video platform owned by the social network. When asked about the changes in the Copa Libertadores TV broadcasts, ESPN and Fox Sports did not express themselves.
