Fox News, Fox unit that was not acquired by Disney after the merger, announced plans to launch an OTT internationally for its Fox News TV channel. As officially reported, the new platform will be called ‘Fox News International’, and will be launched in Mexico next Thursday, August 20th, where it will begin its international expansion.
Apart from Mexico, Fox News plans to launch the OTT also in Spain, Germany and the UK on September 17, and intends to make it available in 20 countries before the end of the year. As detailed, the OTT will feature a USD 6.99 monthly subscription, and access to its catalog will be made through iPhones, Android, Apple TVs and Android TVs. In the future, the idea is to launch it for Amazon Fire TV and Roku as well.
The OTT offer will be made up of live streams from its linear channels, and on-demand access to Fox News programs, such as ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’; ‘Hannity’; ‘Wall Street’, ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight’, and other titles.
‘We are excited to debut Fox News International, enabling our devoted audience overseas access to their trusted source for news and insightful analysis. With a catalog of more than 20 signature programmes on-demand and live streams of our linear networks, this new digital streaming service will ensure our viewers around the world never miss out on the latest from US leading news channel’, said Suzanne Scott, CEO at Fox News Media.
Apart from the launch of Fox News International, Fox announced in late April it had completed the acquisition of the AVOD OTT Tubi, announced in March. That time, the company reported that the transaction was valued at USD 490 million, of which USD 440 million would be paid in cash, and the remaining USD 500 million in deferred consideration, which may be delivered in the next three years. This year, the OTT made its arrival in Mexico official with TV Azteca.
