ESPN to be available via streaming in Latin America through Star+

The Walt Disney Company Latin America has officially announced this last Thursday, July 15th, the full Star+ catalog, its new SVOD OTT, which will be launched in Latin America on August 31st. The platform will bring together general entertainment and sports content aimed at adult audiences, with live sports produced by ESPN, as well as animated content from 20th Television and exclusive Star’s international productions, which are added to the 66 Latin American original productions, already announced. The value of the platform’s monthly subscription will be informed soon.

“With Star+ arrival at Latin America, we achieved a new milestone in the streaming experience, enhancing it, offering each subscriber personalized access to content, especially live sports’, reported Diego Lerner, President at The Walt Disney Company Latin America. ¿Offering relevant experiences has always been our purpose, and it will continue to be the aim of our streaming initiative. Star+ will feature the largest live sports content offering on a streaming platform, with multiple competitions from which each subscriber will be able to choose according to their preferences. In addition, it will feature a vast selection of animated comedies such as The Simpsons, as well as original series and films developed by the prestigious international production labels of The Walt Disney Company. This offer will also include the 66 original content from Latin America, with stories that show everyday habits of our region’, added the executive.

One of the main news of Star+ in Latin America will be that, for the first time in the region, ESPN will be able to be accessed via streaming from Star+, and will feature various sporting events and shows on the platform, including football matches from the Copa  Conmebol Libertadores; the UEFA Champions League; the UEFA Europa League; LaLiga (Spain); the Premier League; Serie A (Italy); and contents of other disciplines, such as the Grand Slam and ATP and WTA tennis tournaments; NBA; MotoGP; NFL; cycling Tour de France; PGA Tours and The Masters in golf; as well as featured rugby content. In addition, Star+ will offer shows produced by ESPN in the region, such as SportsCenter, ESPN Futbol 90, ESPN F360, ESPN F Show, ESPN FC, and others, and even documentaries such as ESPN 30X30, and original productions exclusively developed for the platform.

Another of the main news of Star+ is that it will offer, from the same day of its launch in the region, season 32 of The Simpsons, as well as the entire collection of the serie’s previous seasons. Star+ will also feature a catalog of original Star series, including ‘Only Murders in the Building’; ‘Pam & Tommy’; ‘Y: The Last Man’; ‘American Horror Stories’; ‘Dear Mama’; ‘The Big Leap’; ‘Queens’; ‘Our kind of people’, and others, in addition to the already announced ‘Love, Victor’; ‘Big Sky’; ‘A Teacher’; as well as other series such as ‘This is Us’; ‘The Walking Dead’; ‘Grey’s Anatomy’; and blockbusters like ‘Deadpool’; ‘Logan’; ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Nomadland’, Oscar-winning film.

Likewise, apart from The Simpsons, days after its launch in Latin America, Star+ will premiere other comedies and animated productions, such as ‘Solar Opposites’; ‘Family Guy’; ‘American Dad!’; ‘The Cleveland Show’; ‘Futurama’; ‘Bob’s Burgers’ and ‘Duncanville’. In October, the platform confirmed the premiere of ‘Crossing Swords’ and ‘The Great North’; while in November ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’ will be released; and, during 2022, ‘Marvel’s Hit Monkey’ and ‘Little Demon’ will arrive, together with other titles.

Star+ will be Disney’s second SVOD OTT to be available in Latin America, following the launch of Disney+, in November 2020, with exclusive Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic titles. Although, up to now, Disney has not confirmed the value of the Star+ subscription in the region, the company will offer it as a standalone OTT, as well as in a bundle with Disney+.
