ESPN airs first live sporting event in 4K

ESPN became the first sports broadcaster to air a live sporting event in 4K in Latin America with the UEFA Champions League semi final between Liverpool and Roma, the company announced is a press release. The game, played on Tuesday, April 24, was available on DirecTV (channel 4000) in Argentina and Peru. The final of the tournament, on Saturday May 26 in Kiev, will also be available live in that technology.
The sports channel said that, with the transmission of the semi-final, it became “the first in the industry, in sports, and in Latin America to broadcast live in 4K”. In its upfront event, held in November 2017 in Buenos Aires, the company had already announced that it was ready to broadcast in that quality.
ESPN said that, was once again, “it is at the forefront of technological innovations” and mentioned several milestones in the region, including the fact that it was the first 24/7 sports network available in Latin America, the first to launch an OTT sports platform (ESPN Play) and the first to broadcast a live sporting event in 3D format.
