Disney+ to be launched in November in Latin America

During its Q2 2020 financial results presentation, The Walt Disney Company announced that its new SVOD OTT Disney+, officially launched in the US last year, will arrive at Latin America in November this year. The news was confirmed by Bob Chapek, the company’s CEO, and strengthens Disney’s forecasts that the platform would be available in the region towards the end of 2020.

This way, Latin America will join other countries where Disney + has already been launched, such as the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan and, from next September 15th, it will also be available in Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Luxembourg, Denmark and Sweden.

Disney also reported the number of Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu subscribers in the presentation, reporting that the three together, by the end of June 2020 had more than 100 million SVOD customers. Likewise, only Disney+ ended the sixth month of the year with 60.5 million subscribers in all the countries in which it is available. (Xanax) Hulu, meanwhile, recorded 35.5 million customers, while ESPN+ had 8.5 million. Additionally, Disney had previously reported it plans to launch Hulu internationally in 2021.

Another news announced is the premiere of the movie ‘Mulan’, which, although it was initially going to be released in movie theaters, it will finally be launched directly on Disney+ next September 4th in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Western European countries. The film will be available to Disney + subscribers under a  USD 29.99 premium rental modality. In countries where the platform is not available, it will be released in cinemas on the same date.
