Disney+ officially launches in Latin America

One year after its official launch in the US, Disney+, Disney’s new SVOD OTT, has officially arrived at Latin America yesterday, to be the exclusive destination for all Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic titles.

The launch of Disney+ in Latin America is a milestone in the company’s history in the region, and means the beginning of an unprecedented stage of innovation and creativity. Regarding the catalog that will be available on the platform, the executive explained that Disney+ ‘provides exclusive access to the catalog of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic content; it is the first and only streaming option  for all the available cinematographic contents of our brands; and it is the only digital destination that includes all the content produced in home video format (such as series, TV movies, documentaries, shows, gigs, events and special programs). The service also includes a robust catalog of Disney+ original series and films, a self-produced label, with a variety of titles that can be accessed only on our platform, as well as original content produced locally in several countries in the region, for the most diverse audiences’.

The Disney+ catalog features more than 40 original series, films, short-contents and documentaries from the platform, including ‘The Mandalorian’ – the first live-action Star Wars series, winner of 7 Emmy Awards, and the film ‘The Lady and the Tramp’, by The Walt Disney Studios, that reverts the animated classic from 1955. From Disney they reported that, soon, Marvel productions such as ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ will also be added. Disney+ Latin America’s original productions include fiction titles, talk shows, documentaries, live shows and more, with locally relevant content and outstanding talent from the region. As officially reported by the company, more than 70 original content from Latin America are currently being produced, developed by and for Disney+ by renowned production companies from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, and featuring talents from across the region. In addition, the platform offers third-party productions that premiere exclusively on Disney+.

Disney+ is also the destination for more than 500 movies from Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios and more; as well as the complete saga of ‘Star Wars’; and more than 7 thousand episodes of Disney, Marvel and National Geographic series, including their local productions.

According to the information reported by The Walt Disney Company Latin America, the titles available on the SVOD OTT can be watched in high quality and without advertisements. Subscribers will be able to access Disney+ on up to four devices at the same time; make unlimited downloads and configure up to seven different profiles. The platform will also include personalized recommendations and the ability to create profiles for children. Disney+ will be available to access from TVs and mobile devices, including video game consoles, streaming players and smart TVs. On November 3rd, Samsung announced that the SVOD OTT will be available on its smart TVs in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Peru.  In addition, in Brazil and other countries in the region, the OTT will be integrated into the Roku platform. Subscription can be made directly from the official Disney+ website.

Disney also reported the standard Disney+ price as of launch, which includes a seven-day free trial. According to information from Disney, the SVOD OTT will be available for AR $ 385 per month (USD 5) or AR $ 3,850 (USD 49) per year in Argentina; BRL 27.9 (USD 5) per month or BRL 279.9 per year (USD 49) in Brazil; CLP 6,500 per month (USD 9) or CLP 64,900 (USD 85) per year in Chile; COP 23,900 (USD 6) per month or COP 239,900 (USD 62) per year in Colombia; MX $ 159 per month (USD 7.5) or MX $ 1,599 per year (USD 76) in Mexico; PEN 25.9 per month (USD 7) or PEN 259.9 (USD 72) per year in Peru; USD 5.99 per month or USD 59.99 per year in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama; and USD 7.49 per month or USD 74.99 per year in Uruguay. In the rest of the countries of the region, the direct subscription to Disney+ will be available for USD 5.99 per month, or USD 59.99 per year.
