DirecTV launches 4k ultra HD channel in Latin America

DirecTV announced the launch of a 4K UHD channel in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay. Through this channel, the operator will offer the matches of the World Cup in Russia, as well as the derby Barcelona- Real Madrid on May 6th.

The channel is available at position 4000 of the programming guide and offers live and recorded content of various genres, including sports, series, documentaries, trends, among others. The first live broadcast was on April 22nd with the match between Manchester City and Swansea of the Premier League.

In addition to the Spanish derby, DirecTV will add other matches of La Liga and the Premier League to the programming, as well as the UEFA Champions League final -in association with ESPN- that will be played next May 26th. By the end of the first half of the year, the operator will broadcast the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The channel will also offer content from distributors such as Discovery, Principal Media, K2, Vubiquity and Big Media. In addition, DirecTV will offer original programming in 4K, such as the series based on the novel “El Fútbol No Es Así”, that OnDirecTV will premiere on July 15th.

In order to watch the content in this format, DirecTV subscribers must have the operator’s new 4K UHD decoder, as well as a TV compatible with this technology.
