CuriosityStream expands in Latin America through a partnership with Millicom

CuriosityStream, has announced a distribution partnership with Millicom -which operates in Latin America under the ‘Tigo’ brand-, to bring its programming to over one million subscribers in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Paraguay.

CuriosityStream is currently available to subscribers of Millicom’s linear service in Colombia and Costa Rica, with additional launches planned for the coming months. The announcement follows the launch of the factual media service into Latin America last year on Totalplay, in Mexico.

‘We look forward to providing our trademark brand of quality factual entertainment to help satisfy Millicom viewer appetites for engaging and exciting storytelling about our world and beyond’, said Clint Stinchcomb, President and CEO at CuriosityStream.

Launched by John Hendricks, the founder of Discovery Channel, CuriosityStream offers viewing options across a full category of factual entertainment that includes science, history, technology, nature, society and lifestyle. CuriosityStream boasts a growing library of thousands of titles including original films and series not available anywhere else, like the Emmy Award-winning docuseries Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places. Other original titles made in Latin America include My Backyard: Patagonia; Antarctica: Science Below Zero; Chungungo: The World’s Smallest Otter; The Power of Sound; Spiders and Wild Chile.

The agreement to launch CuriosityStream on Millicom was brokered by content distribution firm Simma Media. Apart from Totalplay in Mexico, throughout 2019, CuriosityStream steadily increased its international presence through agreements with distribution partners, including StarHub in Singapore, Altice in the U.S., Airtel in India, Sky TV in New Zealand, DStv’s MultiChoice in Africa, Liberty Global and Cable Bahamas.
