FUTV, a new pay-TV channel aimed to broadcast Costa Rican football, will officially launch in the country on February 29th. The channel will exclusively broadcast football matches that some Costa Rican teams play at home, and other content. Up to now, the channel will be available on Cabletica, Telecable and Kölbi and, although Tigo did not acquire the channel, it expressed intentions to add it to its programming grid.
‘We know that this TV channel is available to all cable operators, and from Tigo we have had attempts to add it into our grid. Now, we are waiting for a commercial proposal’, said Leandro Lagos, Market Home Manager at Tigo.
In a press release it was reported that FUTV ‘will make its TV network available in all cable companies that want to give that great pleasure to its clients’. FUTV will broadcast local football matches played by Deportivo Saprissa, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Club Sport Herediano, Club Sport Cartagines, AD Grecia, Asociación Deportiva Municipal Perez Zeledon and Limón FC.
‘Tigo Sports continues with its broadcasts, as it has been doing for more than a year, with multiple sports disciplines for our clients, and where National Professional football has a key role week by week in our programming’, said Lagos. ‘From Tigo we consider that this situation is part of the market’s natural evolution, and it validates the business model that Tigo Sports has led in the country’, he concluded.
