Comcast negotiates with Disney to sell its Hulu’s stake

Days after AT&T sold its 10% stake in Hulu, Comcast is negotiating with Disney to sell the 30% part it owns in the OTT, CNBC reported. Currently Disney owns Hulu by 60% and, if the purchase is completed, would become owner of 90% of the platform – that is, add the 30% that today belongs to Comcast. At present, neither company expressed itself about a possible transaction.

On April 16th, AT&T sold its 10% stake in the OTT for USD 1,430 million. AT&T’s shares sale made Hulu to be valued at USD 15 billion. Hulu added 8 million subscribers in 2018 and closed the year with more than 25 million customers considering its VOD and Live TV offerings, which includes more than 60 live channels and recorded one million subscribers a year after its launch.

At present, Comcast (through NBC Universal) and Disney are working to launch their OTTs, just like AT&T, which had a 10% stake in Hulu until a few days ago, and is also working on the launch of its streaming platform through WarnerMedia.
