Colombia reports more than 6 million pay TV subscribers in 2020

According to the latest report recently released by Colombian Comision de Regulacion de Comunicaciones (CRC), a regulatory entity that promotes competition and regulates communications services in the country, the pay TV market ended 2020 with a total of 6.06 million subscribers in the country. According to the report, the figure shows a more than 131 thousand subscribers (2.2%) increase compared to 2019.

From CRC they have also informed that during 2020 the Colombian pay TV market reported revenues valued at COP 3.26 trillion (around USD 890 million).

The Colombian regulator report also detailed that the largest distribution of subscribers took place in Bogota, Barranquilla, Cali and Medellin, which gathered a 42.68% of the total pay TV subscribers in Colombia. In turn, from the entity they highlighted that Medellin made a 5.1% increase on its subscriber base compared with 2019, while in Barranquilla, the increase was valued at 2.2%. In the case of Bogota and Cali, in both cities there was a decrease in terms of subscribers, valued at 1.6% and 1.3%, in each case.

The operator with the largest market share in terms of pay TV subscribers in Colombia was Claro (America Movil), with 45.17%. The company, according to the report, reported a 1.99% increase compared to 2019. The second place belongs to UNE (21.5%; and an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous year). 17.32% of the market share was for DirecTV (AT&T), a figure that shows a 1.33% decrease compared to 2019. In addition, Movistar (Telefonica), HV TV and ETB had market shares valued at 8.7%; 2.6% and 2.3%, respectively.
