Colombia moves forward with DTT deployment

According to a report from the National Television Authority (ANTV), Colombia’s DTT already reaches 86% of the country’s population. The goal is for that number to increase to 92% by the end of this year.
Currently, DTT covers 690 municipalities out of 1,122, with 40 stations that transmit the public network. Since 2015, coverage has increased by 15% and the plan is to install, by 2018, a total of 80,136 antennas and set-top boxes in the DTT territories distributed by the National Television Board throughout the national territory.
Colombia is facing the digitization process with support from the European Union, which has already invested around €7 million for technical and regulatory development, according to Yamil Abdala, EU cooperation official. The analog switch-off in the country is scheduled for 2019.
